SUMMARY:Supporting Neurodivergent Students at Small Liberal Arts Colleges
DESCRIPTION:Between 10% and 30% of college students identify as neurodivergent. As this population continues to grow\, it is increasingly important to understand what neurodiversity means\, recognize the barriers neurodivergent students may face\, and develop strategies to create more inclusive environments both inside and outside the classroom. This webinar will provide an overview of neurodiversity\, introduce common terminology\, and share practical approaches for supporting students who identify as neurodivergent. \nPresenter\nShammah Bermudez is currently the Director of Disability Resources and ADA/504 Coordinator at Macalester College in St. Paul\, Minnesota\, and brings over 15 years of experience in Disability Resources and Students Affairs. He has worked in a variety of campus settings including small private liberal arts\, law school\, and community college settings. Dr. Bermudez is also the President-Elect for MNAHED (Minnesota Association for Higher Education and Disability). \nThursday\, October 16\, 12:00 – 1:00 pm (CT)  \nREGISTER \nHosted by the Associated Colleges of the Midwest\, “Sustaining Belonging: Webinars on Cultivating Inclusive Residential Colleges” blends research with concrete strategies to prepare staff and faculty to support the multiple dimensions of student identity and experience. These webinars unite colleagues across ACM member institutions to engage with subject matter experts on relevant topics to foster more inclusive\, equitable\, and welcoming campus communities for all students.  \nParticipation is free. Sessions are recorded and made available for viewing on the ACM website. Participants are welcome and encouraged to eat lunch while attending these midday virtual sessions.
