Message About ACM Off-Campus Study Programs

ACM has discontinued management of its three off-campus study programs (learn more). Students can still apply directly to affiliated programs.

While the ACM Oak Ridge Science Semester is discontinued, students and faculty can still participate directly with Oak Ridge National Laboratory programs and activities. Check out opportunities for faculty and students and even register for updates. Highlights are the Department of Energy Visiting Faculty Program and Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI).

Program History

The Oak Ridge Science Semester (ORSS), founded by Denison University and managed most recently by the ACM, offered a unique opportunity for undergraduates to immerse themselves in research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the nation’s largest multiprogram research laboratory. Mentored by ORNL scientists, students pursued questions in biosciences, chemistry and nuclear chemistry, computer science, earth and geosciences, energy, engineering, environmental and marine sciences, mathematics and statistics, physics and biophysics, and more. Students also participated in workshops on scientific communication, career development, graduate school preparation, poster presentations, and tours of ORNL research facilities.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy (DOE) science and energy laboratory. Its capabilities span a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines, enabling researchers to explore fundamental science challenges and accelerate the delivery of solutions to the marketplace. ORNL supports DOE’s national missions of scientific discovery, clean energy, and security.

Please visit the Oak Ridge National Laboratory website for more information.
