ACM: What sparked your interest in writing, and how did you get started writing fiction?

St. John: I have always been interested in writing. My parents are both incredibly creative, and they encouraged me to write from a young age. I think my interest in fiction sprang from hearing my favorite teacher, Ms. Triggiano, tell stories. She would end every lesson with a story, and the way that she told them was captivating. It made me want to tell my own stories.

ACM: How have you developed your writing while you’ve been at St. Olaf?

St. John: Since coming to college, I have done a great deal of work on the way I structure my writing, with help from my professors. I have yet to take a fiction writing course on campus, but I hope to do so next year.
