ACM Online Course Design and Pedagogies Workshops: The Liberal Arts Mindset at a Distance

June 15, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am CDT

The liberal arts mindset at a distance: tactics for building a hybrid course, is scheduled for Monday, June 15, 9:30 – 11 a.m. (Central). Led by Beloit College, this session will:

Introduce techniques for incorporating high-touch, active learning into your Fall courses and tactics for building contingency plans, no matter the format, while also building a toolbox for creating and maintaining a strong community. You will discuss strategies for incorporating synchronous and asynchronous activities to engage students and build community in the classroom that remain authentic to our identities as liberal arts educators.

Faculty interested in joining the Monday, June 15 session should register here.

The accompanying disciplinary/special interest breakout session will be on Friday, June 19, 9:30 – 11 a.m. (Central). Registration links for the Friday breakout sessions will be sent separately to those who register for Monday’s workshop.

About the Series

ACM Workshops on Online Course Design and Pedagogy
The Associated Colleges of the Midwest is a consortium of 14 liberal arts colleges deeply committed to residential liberal arts education. Nevertheless, in the context of uncertainty about how faculty and students will be permitted to engage each other this fall, the member colleges are collaborating to offer a series of online summer workshops designed to deliver the concepts, skills, and techniques that will enable ACM faculty to redesign and reimagine residential face-to-face course content for the online environment in ways appropriate to the liberal arts context.

The summer series will be comprised of a webinar-style session on Monday each week, followed by workshop sessions for disciplinary/special interest group breakouts on Friday. The sessions each week will incorporate principles of universal design, equity, and inclusion. Scheduled sessions will run no longer than 75 – 90 minutes.
