International Student Belonging: #AreWeWelcomeHere?
The #YouAreWelcomeHere hashtag stems from a grassroots institution-led effort launched in 2016, which evolved into a national campaign to affirm that U.S. institutions are “diverse, friendly, safe and committed to international student success.” For this session, two career practitioners (Principal Designated School Officials) will help us consider what it means to welcome international students to campus in 2025.
Presenters
This session will be facilitated by Karen Edwards, Dean for International Student Affairs, PDSO/RO, at Grinnell College, and Luyen Phan, Director of International Student Programs, PDSO, at Macalester College. Both have 30+ years of experience supporting international student success and compliance within the ACM and Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA).
Hosted by the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, “Sustaining Belonging: Webinars on Cultivating Inclusive Residential Colleges” blends research with concrete strategies to prepare staff and faculty to support the multiple dimensions of student identity and experience. These webinars unite colleagues across ACM member institutions to engage with subject matter experts on relevant topics to foster more inclusive, equitable, and welcoming campus communities for all students.
Participation is free. Sessions are recorded and made available for viewing on the ACM website. Participants are welcome and encouraged to eat lunch while attending these midday virtual sessions.
