Sustaining Belonging: Supporting Inclusive Dialogue at Small Liberal Arts Colleges

This workshop explores opportunities for conversation and learning across political and ideological difference. Attendees will be encouraged to think about engagement with differing political views not as a debate or an exercise in mere tolerance, but as an opportunity to learn about others, and as an invitation to creative political thinking. The workshop will draw on two case studies: an upper-level course sequence on conservative, liberal, and radical leftist political thought, and an extra-curricular reading group on conservatism.
Hosted by the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, “Sustaining Belonging: Webinars on Cultivating Inclusive Residential Colleges” blends research with concrete strategies to prepare staff and faculty to support the multiple dimensions of student identity and experience. These webinars unite colleagues across ACM member institutions to engage with subject matter experts on relevant topics to foster more inclusive, equitable, and welcoming campus communities for all students.
