Sustaining Belonging: Supporting Spiritual Life at Small Liberal Arts Colleges

March 24 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm CDT

REGISTER

Spirituality remains one of the most significant and most overlooked dimensions of student identity on small liberal arts campuses. Faculty and staff, however, often lack confidence in the tools to recognize or meaningfully support students navigating questions of meaning, purpose, and belief. This session brings together chaplains from the ACM to offer a clearer picture of who spiritual students are and what genuine support looks like in practice, sharing concrete strategies that faculty and staff can incorporate into their own advising, teaching, and community-building. Participants will also discover how spiritual life offices, whose work extends far beyond any single tradition or constituency, can serve as collaborative partners in strengthening the broader campus community.

Presenters

  • Rev. Melea White, Chaplain of the College, Cornell College
  • Terra R. Winston-Sage, Dean of Spiritual and Religious Life and University Chaplain, Lawrence University
  • Rev. Dr. Hannah Adams Ingram, College Chaplain and Associate Dean of Institutional Equity, Macalester College

Hosted by the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, “Sustaining Belonging: Webinars on Cultivating Inclusive Residential Colleges” blends research with concrete strategies to prepare staff and faculty to support the multiple dimensions of student identity and experience. These webinars unite colleagues across ACM member institutions to engage with subject matter experts on relevant topics to foster more inclusive, equitable, and welcoming campus communities for all students.

Participation is free. Sessions will be recorded and available for viewing below. Participants are welcome and encouraged to eat lunch while attending these midday virtual sessions.
