Supporting student mental health and wellness is frequently cited as a top issue for stakeholders at small liberal arts colleges. This workshop offers an accessible overview of the current wellness landscape, including emerging trends and the unique challenges facing students at small residential institutions. Participants will learn to recognize the early warning signs that a student may be struggling, from shifts in academic engagement to changes in social behavior. The session will close with practical, research-informed strategies that staff and faculty members can use in their day-to-day interactions to better support student well-being.

Presenters

  • Marit Lysne, Director of Student Health and Counseling, Carleton College
  • Patrick Gordon, Director of Health Promotion, Carleton College
