Building a Community Engagement Credential Program for Students in the Arts and Humanities

This project will create opportunities for faculty, staff, and students at three ACM colleges to connect with community partners in order to design a student arts and humanities credential program that will be mutually beneficial for all participants. The credential program will provide participating student fellows with a framework for exploring career and vocation through experiential learning and guided reflection, and will culminate with a credential recognizing the skills developed. “Belonging” will serve as an overarching theme for the project and a point of connection between campus and community team members. During the grant period and as part of the future credential program, students from the three member campuses will interact with one another, creating cross-campus networks of belonging. Project participants will gather tools from guest artists, storytellers, and speakers, including consultants from immigrant backgrounds, who use arts and humanities approaches to facilitate interactions around the project theme of “Belonging.” Project leads will consult with their respective campus Community Engagement offices, career and vocation centers, and already established credential programs to discern the most effective and sustainable way to design a Community Engagement Credential Program for students in the Arts and Humanities.
