Active bodies are critical to human health and wellness across all ages and abilities, yet often a lack of cultural competency around active bodies results in marginalization of those most in need. This project brings together faculty from Kinesiology, Public Health, and Sociology/Anthropology to create an “Inclusive Active Bodies” micro-credentialing curriculum that will offer participants across many disciplines hands-on practice, practical instruction, and expertise in building, innovating, and applying physically inclusive and culturally sensitive programs to foster active bodies across a wide range of career fields.
For students, the intensive weekend workshop format we propose– a hackathon model- is an opportunity to learn from experts in multiple fields and engage in hands-on learning in an immersive environment. While we know students in some programs have opportunities to think deeply about such issues, this program enables students from a range of career paths to gain valuable information and skills in a cross-disciplinary manner. The condensed format will benefit students who may be excluded from longer course sequences because of high-credit degree requirements.
