Jaki Herrmann

Knox College, anthropology and sociology

GSEF Fellow, Cohort 2

“My adviser told me before he retired to never stop doing my mental ethnography. I have really taken his words to heart.”

How would you describe yourself in a few sentences?

I’m an anthropology and sociology major and creative writing minor at Knox College. I am a proud TRIO mentor and Co-Vice President of Knox College Improv Club. I love making clay figures for friends and helping run the genre fiction magazine on campus.

If you had to teach someone one thing, what would you teach them?

I would teach them how to use polymer clay. Making clay creatures is one of my favorite ways to relax, and polymer clay is very easy to work with.

What’s the best advice someone has given to you?

In terms of academics, my adviser told me before he retired to never stop doing my mental ethnography. I have really taken his words to heart.
