Bridge over the White River

ACM Costa Rica, Spring 2009

This photograph was taken on the bridge over the White River (Río Blanco) in the small mountain town of Herradura de Rivas in Perez Zeledon, in southern central Costa Rica, near the Chirripo National Park at the base of the country’s highest peak.  The group was on an ACM trip to San Gerardo de Rivas, a nearby town.  They hiked to Herradura to observe the lifestyle of a small rural town, what crops were produced in the area, the history of the town, and the problems caused by the river due to frequent flooding.  The bridge had been rebuilt by the community shortly before the group visited, because of its importance to the economy of the area.
