“This picture was taken from the window of one of Shirakawago’s renowned Gassho-style houses. With roofs made of thatch, these houses used to serve multiple purposes such as farming silkworms. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, Shirakawago is the only town left in Japan to have these Gassho-style houses.”
