ACM admission officers will travel to the West Coast to highlight the value of going to college in the Midwest – and specifically to ACM colleges, of course – when they host a Counselor Institute & Luncheon in Los Angeles on Friday, January 30.
ACM Counselor Institute & Luncheon |
Friday, January 30 Maggiano’s-The Grove Los Angeles |
The event will have two parts, beginning in the morning with a professional development Institute aimed at providing insights and information to help counselors guide their students in applying to selective colleges. A counselor college fair and luncheon will follow, offering campus updates and opportunities for counselors to talk individual with admission officers.
The program will be held at Maggiano’s Little Italy-The Grove, located at 189 The Grove Drive in Los Angeles (map & directions). Counselors can register to attend the Institute, the luncheon, or both.
The interactive Institute will include:
- An introduction to the ACM and distinctive aspects of attending college in the Midwest;
- A mock application review committee exercise that’s designed to give participants an inside view of what admission officers at selective colleges look for as they consider applications, essays, and recommendations; and
- Small group discussions addressing topics of interest to counselors and the students and families they serve.
High school counselors and other professionals who work with young people in the college selection process are welcome to attend the event. Advance registration is required and space is limited. See the Institute & Luncheon webpage for details and a link to register.
The ACM colleges have a long tradition of collaboration in hosting events for counselors. In recent years, they have sponsored a series of Summer Institutes in Chicago, an Institute and luncheon in Denver, and counselor breakfasts in the Chicago area, the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, and St. Louis.
