Sustainable Strategies for Supporting Well-Being and Academic Engagement for Faculty and Students

As we emerge from the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty continue to navigate what it means to support student well-being and academic engagement in ways that are role-appropriate, sustainable, and effective. These concerns shape the retention and well-being of both faculty and students. Our work reimagines the shape of campus living and learning environments for everyone.

This grant builds upon a 2022 ACM FaCE grant workshop that invited 37 faculty and teaching staff from nine ACM institutions to consider issues of well being. In its new iteration, each regional, one-day workshop will additionally weave in perspectives from the work A Pedagogy of Kindness (Denial, 2024).

We will bring together faculty and instructional staff of ACM institutions to explore topics such as strategies for supporting faculty/staff well-being, exploring what current survey data tells us about who our students are and what they may navigating, and how we can address well-being through syllabi, course design, and intentionally creating dynamic classroom spaces.
