It will be an evening of performance, art, and film as the Chicago Arts Festival hits the stage and walls of Transistor on Chicago’s North Side on Saturday, May 8. Doors will open at 8 p.m.
The Chicago Arts Program‘s traditional end-of-semester showcase of student work boasts an eclectic line-up, featuring:
- Singer-songwriter Katie Spencer,
- Giulia Hines giving a gallery talk about her fiber art,
- A screening of clips from a movie by Justin Williams,
- Dramatic readings by Carolyn Engerer, and
- Jacob Williams’ stand-up comedy.
The venue will be Transistor, a store/performance space/hangout in the Andersonville neighborhood that TimeOut Chicago likens to “your coolest friend’s apartment.”
The shop, at 5045 N. Clark Street, bills itself as “equal parts art gallery, book and magazine shop, CD & record store, electronics boutique, and more,” and it regularly hosts film screenings, performances, workshops, and pingpong.
Chicago Arts is one of the ACM Chicago Programs, which offer students a semester of interdisciplinary courses, internships, and independent study projects. With its immersion in the city’s cultural landscape, Chicago Arts challenges students to explore the creative process with the support of a community of peers, teachers, and working artists.
