Story: As You Are
More about Mica Bahn
- Senior at Carleton College
Major: English
Hometown: New York, NY
ACM: Do you have plans after graduation?
Bahn: I hope to enjoy my last summer after college waitressing by the beach, while looking for jobs in publishing or museum management.
ACM: What sparked your interest in writing, and how did you get started writing fiction?
Bahn: Reading sparked my interest in writing. As a very small child I read Sarah, Plain and Tall and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn––both are books about young girls who begin to tell stories about the world around them. I admired these characters and related deeply to them, and I began to record my own observations about my neighborhood and family in a journal.
ACM: How have you developed your writing while you’ve been at Carleton?
Bahn: For my senior comprehensive I chose the creative writing option in the English department. The short story collection that I produced was a culmination of all that I have learned in Carleton’s creative writing classes through the years.
